My UCM :)

  UCM ART GALLERY I did not know UCM had its own art gallery--un til one day in this class it was mentioned. The gallery is a good size. There was a lot of room for many displays, and there was a lot of room to walk around. I think it is great the students have a place to put their work. In many cases, people express how they feel or think in their pieces. The displays in the gallery were all Senior projects. It was my understanding that the project was centered around interior or graphic design. Most of the displays showcased a building they had designed. In the picture above, the artist created a place where many people could hang out. They named it the ‘Neighborhood Hub’. I saw another one that was an Independent Living Center for the elder. I really liked the idea and design with that one because my grandmother lives in an ILC. She really loves it, but there are some things she would change of course.   My friend Timmy and I decided to attend Nightmare on Holden. Nightmare on Holden is a Halloween themed event that the Union put together. I first heard about the event at a Spotlight meeting. Timmy and I walked to the Union after dinner. The first thing we did was sign up for the haunted house. We had to sign a waiver, but it was not scary at all. My friend, Rosa, was one of the scarers. She jumped out and we just laughed. After that, Timmy and I went to the crafts. We both made faces with popsicle sticks. Timmy made a bumblebee. I did not know he was very artistic, but it was actually really good. I felt like I was in 5th grade again. The next thing we did was watch karaoke. Some people take karaoke very seriously. They were dancing around on the stage. While we were watching, we were waiting for the raffle to be called. After each event, you got a ticket. We put the ticket in a bucket so we would have a chance to win a prize. The prizes all had snacks and movies. Unfortunately,...

  My friends and I decided to go to the drag queen race that Spotlight put on.  I have recently started attending Spotlight meetings. I want to start getting more involved. Spotlight seems like a great organization. Spotlight makes a lot of fun events. The drag queen race was at Hendrick's hall, which I had never been to until the show. The theatre was packed full, but we also followed Covid-19 procedures. I had such a fun time. I was laughing and cheering the whole time. I think doing drag is an amazing skill. It’s crazy seeing how they can transform. I love the whole community of drag as well. They are passionate about what they do and they are open to everyone. The drag queens in the show did an amazing job. The host of the show was a drag queen named Dorothy. She was dressed as Dorothy from the movie the Wizard of Oz. She sang a few songs and introduced the guests. There were 5 queens and they all performed. My favorite was Keke. She was the blonde queen wearing the pink ...

  I am really happy I decided to attend this meeting. This meeting was very informative and will help me quite a bit in my career. I learned many new things about Special Education. I first heard about it through my Math teacher, Dr. Ewing. He suggested to his class because we are all future educators. He claimed it would be helpful and he was correct. The speaker at the meeting is an expert in Special Education. She is all about informing students about disabilities and how it affects people. There are many types of disabilities. For example, physical, brain, and intellectual impairment are all different aspects of disabilities. Intellectual disabilities vary with different people. The speaker showed us an example of a language impairment disability through an activity. In the activity, people had to tell a story without saying the letter “n”. People struggled to come up with words. This demonstrated how it is difficult for people with this disability to communicate. They know wh...

  This social event does not seem too thrilling, but it was meaningful. This class is full of spectacular girls. We all have the same goal, and it’s to be an educator. All of us girls are hardworking and career-driven. We all know that our goal is our first priority. I am enjoying getting to know everyone in this class. Everyone is unique and we all have our own personalities. We decided to go to Einstein’s Bagels after class one day. We walked together as a class to the library. It was different because I don’t do anything with people in my other classes outside of class. I am getting close to a couple of girls in the class, but there’s one who has become one of my best friends. Kate and I met before class started in August. On the first day of class, we were both shocked to see each other. We have many things in common but the most important is the fact that we both want to be teachers.   I decided to sign up for the Leadership Impact Retreat a few weeks ago. Like it says in the name, it made an impact on me. The main idea behind the retreat was to figure out what kind of leader I am. They wanted us to focus on ourselves and figure out our strengths and weaknesses. We were divided into 6 different groups or teams. I was team 3. Each group had about 4 or 5 freshmen and one leader. The leaders were usually juniors or seniors. My group consisted of Kenny, our leader, Madison, Carrie, and Rosa. We all had different personalities but we got along very well. On the first day we got to know each other and we did many ice breakers. The ice breakers helped us open up to each other. After that, we had a couple of educational sessions. In the sessions, we were informed about the meaning behind Impact. It’s for all of us leaders to grow. The last thing of the night was a motivational speech from Zachary Racy.
